About

Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (“UC”), founded in 1888, is one of the oldest universities in Chile and is the top university in Latin America according to the 2014 QS rankings.

The university has 16 faculties on four campuses throughout Santiago. The four campuses house 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students, many from across Latin America and beyond.

Yale-NUS students will participate in the College UC programme, a liberal arts pathway that involves about 2,000 students within the larger university. Students select one of three focus areas (Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences) and can choose classes from the school’s extensive list of 40+ majors and 90+minors.

DETAILS

Room & Board

Students live in off-campus apartments and commute to classes. The UC International Relations office can offer advice on securing accommodations. Students will also be responsible for their own meals.

Insurance

Students will be covered by additional comprehensive health insurance through CIPE.

Visa

Official documentation needed for the application will be provided upon admission to UC. For more information, visit: http://internationalrelations.uc.cl/preparate-para-llegar-a-la-uc/visa

It is the student’s responsibility to apply for and obtain the necessary visa(s). CIPE cannot guarantee any visa approvals. Protocols and processing times vary greatly; apply early and make copies of all your documents.

Finances

Students studying on CIPE-approved semester abroad programmes pay the same Yale-NUS tuition as they would if they were at Yale-NUS. Students are responsible for their own room and board, airfare, visa, and other personal expenses. They will not be billed for room and board at Yale-NUS for the semester that they are abroad. There is no additional study abroad fee.

The College is committed to ensuring, as far as is reasonably possible, that finances do not prevent students from participating in programmes that they are otherwise qualified for. Financial aid requests can be made to CIPE, and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Expenses

Be sure to factor in the following categories of expenditure as you plan your budget:

Round-trip air travel to Chile
